A Menace No More

So a lot has happened since my last post:

Once Upon a Mattress finished stronger than it started and I had a lot of fun with it, so that's always good.

I went on vacation and was out of town for about half the month of July. Bre and I went to D.C. and NY for a week. We were in D.C. for the fireworks on the 4th of July, and saw two shows in NY while we were there. (Wicked was incredible - first time seeing it for her, 4th for me... And In the Heights completely blew me away. We chose well seeing those two.) The trip overall was amazing and just what the doctor ordered.

Two weeks later, right before leaving on a trip to Vegas for the weekend (no, we weren't going to get married) I proposed and Bre said yes, so we're now officially engaged. Have been for over a month now I guess... wow the time has flown.

We're getting married on October 17, 2009 in the Bountiful Temple. The reception will be that night at the Eldredge Manor which is also in Bountiful. Hopefully everyone can make it. :) For more on the story of Bre and I, click here.

Once Upon a Mattress...

Sounds kinda dirty doesn't it? But that's the name of the play I'll be performing in starting on June 5th. It's really quite innocent. It's a stage musical adaptation of "The Princess and the Pea," for those that have never heard of it. It's been lots of fun participating in this show. I've really been having a great time.

A few people have asked for explanation of the show and my part in it though, so I thought I'd take the time to elaborate here:

Once Upon a Mattress is The Princess and the Pea like you've never seen it before, because it's told by a minstrel who was actually there at the time of the princess' arrival. The kingdom is small and somewhat backward, but mostly because the Queen has decreed that no one is allowed to marry until the Prince does, yet won't allow him to marry any of the princesses that have come to the kingdom already.

Amid the craziness of this kingdom are two star-crossed lovers, Sir Harry, a newly knighted young man, and his fiancee Lady Larken. As the play begins, Lady Larken has some shocking news. Due to an... ummm... 'moment of weakness' Larken announces to a dumbstruck Harry that she's carrying his child, which creates quite a predicament and leads to his quest to bring back a true princess to wed their prince and save them all from lives lacking in love.

That's right, I play Sir Harry - the brave, but not quite bright young knight whose... eagerness... has landed him in hot water, and who brings back the Princess Winnifred to win the hand of the Prince and help them all live happily ever after... eventually.

It's a really funny show. Very tongue-in-cheek. The play runs from June 5-June 27 playing every Friday, Saturday, and Monday within that time. So come one, come all, and enjoy!!

Perfect Eyesight Doesn't Suck

On friday I had my final post-LASIK follow-up. I checked in at 20/15 vision!! I felt the urge to celebrate, so I after work I went home and took a nap!
A few things have become clear to me (no pun intended) over the past three months as I have been living free of glasses and contacts. So I decided to verbalize them here, because what else is a blog for?
First, while it is really great to be able to see, without fumbling on the nightstand for glasses, the clock and other things in my room when I wake up in the middle of the night, waking up in the middle of the night still sucks.
Second, the problems I've always had with haircuts have lessened considerably because I can see what the stylist is doing to me as they do it, and can correct them if they're not doing what I asked. It makes all the difference in the world!!
Third, falling asleep to a movie or reading is so much easier and more comfortable when you nodding off doesn't cause glasses to be pressed into your face. I love watching a movie until I fall asleep, but I've never really been able to do it, because I would either have to watch it without my glasses and not see anything, but fall asleep easily, or I would watch it with my glasses on and smash them into my face when I fell asleep... NOT comfortable.
These are just a few of the things I've learned in the past three months. I'm sure more will follow.

Spring at last!

I woke up late this morning. Somehow I had managed to turn my alarms (yes, I set more than one. mornings... ugh.) off at some point yesterday, so they didn't go off this morning. Luckily for me, Bre decided randomly to send me a "good morning" text when she woke up at 7:30 which woke me up. Good thing too. Otherwise I probably would have slept straight through and been really late for work. As it was I was only about 15 minutes late. I have to say, again, thank goodness I am a guy! I would never had made it if I'd had to deal with hair and makeup. (not to gloat to the women who might be reading this, but I think we have it better...) :)

So I got to work and was surprised to note that daylight saving time has finally caught up with itself and the sun was shining brightly outside my window. (That's right I have a window seat now. Score!) And as I sat there logging into my computer and waiting for my Outlook to load, I looked out across the street to the park and tennis courts and all I could think was, Spring is finally here!! Of course I realize, that this being Utah, by the end of the week we'll probably have snow again. But for today, I will bask in the sunlight and blue skies. You never know how long they'll last!
